It has been reported that the Russian pipe producer United Metallurgical Company (OMK) will start construction works on its new mill-5000 on May 30.

The new mill, worth about USD one billion, is scheduled to commence production by 2010.

The mill-5000 will have an annual capacity of 1.2 million metric tons of wide sheet, and will be able to satisfy the wide sheet requirements of OMK subsidiary Vyksa Steel Works.

Currently, OMK buys wide sheets from Severstal and foreign suppliers.
