In April this year, the unemployment rate of the 34 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member countries decreased by 0.1 percentage point to 5.2 percent compared to March, according to new figures published by the OECD. The number of unemployed in the OECD region was 33.2 million people in the same month.
In April, the unemployment rate in the euro area was at 7.6 percent, falling 0.1 percentage point month on month. In the given month, in Europe the largest declines in the unemployment rate were observed in Spain and Lithuania with 0.2 percentage point decreases. Outside Europe, in April the unemployment rate fell by 0.2 percentage points to 3.6 percent in the US and by 0.1 percentage point to 5.7 percent in Canada and to 2.4 percent in Japan, month on month.
