Nucor announced today that its board of directors has approved a steel bar micro mill project, with five states in the Midwest and Southeast under consideration for the site: Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, South Carolina and Florida. Nucor's board of directors also approved the expansion of its existing merchant bar operations in either Illinois or Ohio.

In a statement, Nucor said both the micro mill project and the expansion of the company’s merchant bar operations are part of its “planned strategy for long-term profitable growth” by leveraging existing operating abilities.
