Nucor shows interest in Vitkovice Steel tender

US steel producer Nucor Steel Corporation has reportedly expressed its interest in the privatization tender of Czech steel producer Vitkovice Steel (VS). Czech Finance Ministry announced that a two-round tender for the sale of 99% stake in VS will be opened on January 6, 2005. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, Arcelor, LNM Holdings, Severstal and Industrial Union of Donbass of Ukraine expressed their interests in the privatization of VS. The Czech government announced that it will sell the company to an investor, who bids the highest offer and fulfill the productivity criteria set by the European Union (EU). The tender is expected to generate more than CZK4 billion ($178 million).
