Nucor Corporation announced Tuesday that they plan to build a Special Bar Quality Products steel mill in the Southern United States. Aiming to be one of the country's largest SBQ mills in the US, this facility's capacity will be approximately 850,000 net tons per year, producing high-quality carbon and alloy rounds and round cornered squares from 3" to 9" for the automotive, heavy equipment and service center markets. Construction should begin after a site location has been determined, and regulatory approvals, tax matters and various contracts have been resolved. Currently Nucor has operating facilities in seventeen states and is the nation's largest recycler. Nucor's products consist of carbon steel, fasteners, alloy steel, stainless steel and engineered steel.
