According to news reports, Nucor Corp said Tuesday that its third-quarter earnings may increase from year-ago levels, based on improvement in demand along with supply disruptions experienced by competitors.  Earnings could settle at 35 to 40 cents a share compared with 35 center per share in Q3 2012.

However, the company expects its raw materials segment to report weaker results compared to Q2 2013, due to higher start-up costs at the new DRI plant in Louisiana, which should start production in a matter of weeks.
