NSSMC’s Kosei Shindo named as new worldsteel chairman

Kosei Shindo, president of Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC), has been named as the new chairman of the World Steel Association (worldsteel), effective immediately as of October 18. The announcement was made at the 51th annual worldsteel meeting in Brussels. Mr. Shindo replaces John. J. Ferriola, chairman, president and CEO of US steelmaker Nucor Corporation who had been named as the chairman of worldsteel last year. Ferriola will serve as vice-chairman of the association in the coming 12 months, together with Ohjoon Kwon, the CEO of South Korean steel producer POSCO.

Worldsteel has also welcomed four new member companies into the association, namely China Baowu Steel Group Corp., represented by MA Guoqiang, Essar Steel Algoma, represented by Kalyan Ghosh, Liberty One Steel (formerly Arrium Limited), represented by Sanjeev Gupta, and Toscelik Profil Ve Sac Endustrisi A.Ş., represented by Fuat Tosyali.
