Norwegian construction workers go on strike

Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:40:15 (GMT+3)   |
As of today, April 13, the Norwegian United Federation of Trade Unions (Fellesforbundet) decided to go on strike in the country's construction sector, following the failure to reach to an agreement with the Federation of Norwegian Construction Industries (Byggenæringens Landsforening/BNL).

According to the statement released by Fellesforbundet, the parties were too far apart and the mediator did not find a basis on which to present a proposal for a solution, and the conflict was unavoidable. 21,000 workers are involved and many major construction sites will be idle during the strike. The main issue was the minimum wages in the construction sector.

Commenting on the issue, head of the Fellesforbundets delegation, Anders Skattkjær, said, "There was not any basis on which to come to an agreement. The totality was not good enough."
