China's Guangdong Province has announced its energy conservation and emissions reduction targets. Accordingly, by 2020 sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions will decrease by 5.4 percent, 3.0 percent and 18.0 percent compared to those recorded by the end of 2015. In order to achieve its targets, it has decided not to undertake the construction of new coal power, petrochemical and steel projects up to the end of 2020.
