NMDC’s project to double capacity of Greenfield steel mill approved

The Indian government has approved expansion project to double the capacity of NMDC Limited’s 3 million mt per year steel mill scheduled to go into trial production over the next few months, a government official said on Tuesday, September 25.

He said that NMDC Limited, the country’s largest iron ore miner is close to complete the construction of its 3 million mt steel mill at Nagarmar in the central state of Chhattisgarh and the trial production is expected to commence within the next two to three months and the government has cleared the project to commence doubling capacity of the steel mill soon after commercial production from the steel mill stabilized.

The steel mill will commence production of an estimated 2.89 million mt per year of hot rolled coil within the next few months as the first product output and subsequently increase higher value added product range, the official added.
