Indian state-run iron ore miner NMDC Limited’s plans to develop an iron ore block in Chhattisgarh state has run into rough weather following an indefinite strike and blockade of the project site by the local indigenous population, senior state government officials said on Tuesday, June 11.

The officials said that the state government is also looking into the possibility of reviewing the allocation of the Bailadila Deposit No. 13 for possible violation of rules of allocation, with risk of cancellation of the award of the iron ore block.

NMDC through its joint venture with the Chhattisgarh government arm, Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation, had floated NMDC-CMDC Limited to develop Bailadila Deposit No. 13 for production of 10 million mt of iron ore per year.
