After many twists and turns, the first phase of the Nibo Steel Project has finally been completed and put into production.
Last Friday, the commencement of production in the first phase of the Nibo Steel Project was announced. The designed capacity of the first phase is two million mt, while the total production capacity of the two stages of the project is expected to reach around four million mt by March 2008.
With a total investment of RMB 17 billion ($2.22 billion), Nibo Steel is one of the key projects in the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" for Zhejiang Province and Suzhou city. The main equipment in question includes two 6-meter coke ovens, one 2.5 million mt pellet production line, two 2,500 m3 iron-making blast furnaces, two sets of 180 mt converters, one 1,780 mm hot rolled continuous mill, one 1,780 mm cold rolled continuous mill, two galvanized lines, one color coated production line, and also the related public facilities. The product range will cover hot rolled sheet, cold rolled sheet and galvanized sheet.
With its raw materials mainly to be imported from abroad, Nibo Steel will generally supply the Yangtze River Delta market.
