Ukrainian mining and steel producing group Metinvest has announced that a new railway track, bypassing the bridge across the Kalchyk river which was destroyed in a terrorist attack, has connected steel mills in Mariupol with the maritime merchant port located there.

The length of the new single-track railway line is 1,138 meters. In addition, a new pedestrian level crossing has been built for residents of nearby houses, with roads for motor vehicles having been restored.

"The backup track has been built. Now we will receive raw materials and ship finished products through the seaport. I would like to note that during the first days trains will run on the new track only during the day, and with the speed not exceeding 20 km/h. This is necessary for shrinkage of soil under the railway track, after the passage of freight trains," Ilyich Iron & Steel Works CEO Yuriy Zinchenko said.
