Russian State Duma deputy Nikolay Ezersky and Sverdlovsk region governor Eduard Rossel have discussed the project for the construction of a new flat rolling production facility at the location of Russian electric-welded pipe and steel structure producer Urals Pipe Works (Uraltrubprom).
Accordingly, the project includes the installation of a slab reheating furnace and of a flat rolling mill for the production of HRC with an annual capacity of up to 2.5 million mt, of which about 750,000 mt of coils could be used by Uraltrubprom. It is supposed that the slab supplier for the mill will be Nizhny Tagil Iron and Steel Works (NTMK), a subsidiary of the Russian steel producer Evraz Group.
The equipment for the new flat rolling production facility is to be delivered by Japanese companies, and the investments in the project are estimated at Ruble 20 billion (approx. $650 million). The project feasibility study is to be finished by the end of 2009, while the commissioning is scheduled to take place within four years.
The new flat rolling production facility will allow an increase in the level of steel processing in the Sverdlovsk region, the reduction of transportation costs and the replenishment of the region's finances through the production of high value-added steel products.
