Net earnings climb in Q1 for Valmont Industries

Omaha, Nebraska-based Valmont Industries, Inc., manufacturer of engineered products for infrastructure, mechanized irrigation equipment for agriculture, and a provider of coating services announced Thursday net earnings of $25.6 million, up from net earnings of $16.5 million in Q1 2010.

Valmont's utility structure industry (which includes both steel and concrete utility poles) accounted from 22 percent of the company's quarterly earnings. Sales in Q1 2011 rose 11 percent over Q1 2010 sales on increase demand for utility structures.

Valmont's coating line, including hot-dip galvanizing (HDG), reached sales of $73.5 million in Q1 2011, more than two times sales in Q1 2010.
