Need pipe? Just call ahead to get it made on-site

From the nation that invented drive-thru pharmacies and vending machines that dispense fishing bait, comes the PIPE MPV or Mobile Pipe Vehicle. Time is money and convenience is a big selling point. Ohio-based CONTECH Construction Products Inc. is touting their MPV as the next big thing in remote, on-site steel pipe manufacturing. CONTECH claims that two PIPE MPV trucks can drive to a construction site and set up a complete pipe manufacturing operation in four hours. Once set-up is complete, all that is needed is a truckload of coiled steel to manufacture corrugated steel pipe. The mobile operation features a truck with a mill that has saw capable of handling pipe diameters up to 16 feet. The other truck has a generator, tools, spare parts, and miscellaneous support equipment. CONTECH has designed the trucks so that no special permits or processes are necessary. Everything is self-contained and capable of running 24-hours without refueling. CONTECH says the MPV virtually eliminates the pains of traditional pipe delivery, which would normally require truckload after truckload to adequately stock a construction site. Furthermore, the MPV can be picked up and set on a train or ship for delivery to extremely remote locations. If strength is a worry, then worry no more: According to the company, the pipe manufactured on-site meets the same strength requirements as factory made pipe and meets all ASTM and AASHTO specifications.
