NEA: China not to approve new coal projects over next three years

Nur Bekri, director general of China’s National Energy Administration (NEA), has outlined the energy development path for China in its 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020) at a national energy working conference held in Beijing.
 
Accordingly, the NEA official said that China should focus on green and low-carbon energy development in its 13th Five Year Plan period and should strive to eliminate 60 million mt of outdated and excess coal capacity in 2016. Specifically, in the coming three years approval of new coal projects will not be granted in China.
