NDRC: China’s crude steel output up 6.3 percent in January-July

In the January-July period of the current year, China’s crude steel output amounted to 532.85 million mt, up 6.3 percent year on year, as announced by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). In the given year, China’s finished steel output and ferroalloys output amounted to 625.87 million mt and 17.89 million mt, up 6.6 percent and 4.9 percent year on year, respectively, while China’s overall output of metallurgical coke totaled 247.46 million mt, down 3.3 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in the given period China’s finished steel exports amounted to 41.31 million mt, down 13.6 percent, while its finished steel imports totaled 7.70 million mt, decreasing by 1.1 percent, both year on year.

As also indicated by the NDRC, in July this year China's average composite steel price index issued by the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) was at 116.11 points, down 0.19 points compared to June and rising by 11.24 points year on year. In particular, in July of the current year, the average prices of 6.5 mm high-speed wire rod, 20 mm common medium plate and 1.0 mm cold rolled coil (CRC) were respectively RMB 4,204/mt ($615.5/mt), RMB 4,385/mt ($642.1/mt) and RMB 4,751/mt ($695.6/mt), up RMB 23/mt ($3.4/mt), down RMB 79/mt ($11.6/mt) and down RMB 6/mt ($0.9/mt), all compared to June. The prices in question rose by 10.3 percent, 19.6 and 10.3 percent on year-on-year basis, respectively.
