India-based Monnet Ispat (MI), which was recently acquired by the Aion-JSW Steel consortium, is ramping up production at its Chattisgarh site. The company plans to sell 100,000 mt pellets and 50,000 mt of DRI monthly starting in November; trial production at the higher capacity rate has been reported.

The company has an installed capacity of 2 million mt of annual pellet production and 0.8 million mt coal based DRI plant along with 1.5 million mt of crude steel capacity. Due to the company’s previous distressed financial position, capacity had reportedly been reduced to less than half.
