MMK targets higher shipments to automotive industry in 2019, exceeding 2018 record

Russian steelmaker Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that, in the first half of the current year, its steel products shipments to automotive industry totaled more than 314,000 mt, up 23 percent year on year. In 2019, MMK targets to supply more than 600,000 mt of steel products to automotive industry, while in 2018 its deliveries to the automotive industry totaled 550,000 mt, which was a record figure.

In the first half of 2019, deliveries to automotive industry constituted 7.5 percent of MMK’s shipments to domestic market. The company’s deliveries to automakers such as UAZ, Volkswagen and AVTOVAZ increased in the January-June period.

One of the biggest suppliers of steel products to automotive industry, MMK’s share within the metal consumption in enterprises of the automotive industry reaches 50-80 percent. MMK supplies cold-rolled and hot-dip galvanized steel both for the major Russian firms and the foreign automakers which have capacities located in Russia.

MMK has launched its modern cold rolling complex in the sheet rolling shop No. 11 before, in 2011-2012, which helped the company to become an active supplier for automakers, by allowing it to compete with foreign manufacturers.
