The Russian steelmaker Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced the commissioning of installation of the main equipment for the mill 5000 at the plant's flat rolling workshop No. 9, which is currently under construction.

In 2006, MMK concluded an agreement with German plantmaker SMS Demag for supply and installation of a new plate rolling mill 5000 and also a new slab concaster.

The mill 5000 will allow MMK to produce plate with 4,850 mm width for the oil and gas, shipbuilding, bridge building and machine building industries. The new mill, which will have an annual capacity of 1.5 million mt, is expected to be put into operation in the middle of 2009.
