The Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced the recommissioning of its fourth coke oven battery, following the completion of an overhaul.

The overhaul at MMK's coke oven battery No. 4, which has an annual production capacity of 594,000 mt of coke, was started in January this year. With the recommissioning of the battery, MMK's total annual coke production will amount to six million mt.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, the coke oven battery No.4 was put into operation during World War II. The battery produced its first coke in June 30, 1942. During the war, four coke batteries were built at MMK. The coke oven battery No. 4 has been reconstructed twice, in 1970 when it became heavy-load, and again in 1984.

In late November 2009 MMK successfully completed the overhaul of its third coke oven battery, which reached its maximum capacity output on March 10 this year.
