The Russian steelmaker Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that it is continuing with the implementation of one of its major investment projects - i.e. the construction of slab concaster No. 6 at its oxygen-converter workshop.

The main equipment for the new concaster will be supplied by the end of the current year.

With the construction of the new slab concaster No. 6, MMK is pursuing its goal of satisfying the slab feedstock requirements of its new plate mill 5000, which is also currently under construction. The new concaster will have an annual production capacity of 1.65 million mt. The main supplier of equipment is German plant building company SMS Demag.
