The Russian steelmaker Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has released its production results the first five months of 2008.
Accordingly, during the given perion, the mill recorded an 8.2 percent increase in agglomerate production to 4.483 million mt but a 10.9 percent decrease in its iron ore production year on year to 612,800 mt.
During the first five months MMK saw a 11.7 percent increase in its coke production to 2.449 million mt, an 11.2 percent rise in its pig iron production to 4.306 million mt, a 10.6 percent increase in its crude steel production to 5.945 million mt and a 10.4 percent rise in its rolled steel to 5.750 mt year on year.
According to the report, MMK leads in Russian and CIS iron and steel production. Moreover, the mill plans to increase year on year its iron and steel products supply for the dynamically growing domestic market. The issue is considered to be a priority and strategically important for the company's management.
In 2007 the company delivered 7.3 million mt of metallurgical products to the domestic market, which is by 1.3 million mt more than during 2006. In 2008, the mill is to increase its steel production to 13 million mt. Thus, during the current year MMK plans to supply more then 8 million mt of metallurgical products to the domestic market.
As MMK's Executive Director Boris Dubrovskiy stated, by the year 2013 the company is to produce15 million mt of steel products, 12 million mt of which can be delivered to the domestic market.
