Russian steelmaker Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) has announced that in 2017 its shipments of galvanized steel to the Russian market amounted to 980,000 mt, while its domestic polymer-coated steel sales reached 310,000 mt. MMK’s share in apparent consumption of galvanized steel and polymer-coated steel in Russia amounted to 31 percent and 15 percent, respectively, in the given year.
MMK increased its sales to the export markets and CIS countries in 2017. In particular, export sales of galvanized steel (excluding exports to the CIS countries) amounted to 25,000 mt in 2017, rising by 108 percent compared to 2016. In the given year, sales of galvanized steel to the CIS countries grew by 10,000 mt year on year to 127,000 mt, and sales of polymer-coated steel to these countries reached 53,000 mt, also up by 10,000 mt year on year.
In order to maintain 100 percent capacity utilization in the current year, MMK will continue to adopt new products.
