MMK dominates Russian value added steel market

According to the data issued by Chermet, Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (ММK ranks first place in Russia in the manufacture of hot rolled flat products, cold rolled bands and cold-formed sections; it ranks second place in steel articles (metalware), galvanized and polymer coated flat products, and is in third place as regards cold rolled flats production. Furthermore, MMK is Russia's sole producer of tinplate, holding a 100 percent domestic market share for this product.

The main focus of Russia's largest single site steel mill is on hot rolled strip which accounts for 54 percent of its total sales. MMK has a 41 percent in hot rolled flats produced nationwide, while the share of cold rolled products in its shipments is 14 percent, i.e. 32 percent of the country's output. Galvanized and polymer coated strip respectively occupy four and one percent shares of MMK's shipments, representing approximately a quarter of national output of these products.

MMK meanwhile produces more than half of Russia's cold rolled band and cold-formed sections, including 100 percent of siding material for railway cars.

The company plans to further increase the share of its value added goods production through the modernization program it has initiated.
