The Russian steelmaker Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced the commissioning of three new equipment units - an air separator, a ladle furnace and a second HDG line.
MMK has started operations at its second HDG line, which has been supplied by Italian plantmaker Danieli and has an annual production capacity of 450,000 mt. The new mill will produce HDG in coils of 0.3-2.5 mm in thickness and of 700-1,450mm in width. With the new mill in place, MMK's annual HDG production capacity is to increase to 950,000 mt.
In addition, MMK has commissioned a new air separator at its oxygen workshop No. 4. With the new air separator, MMK will be able to increase annual oxygen production by 300 million m3 and nitrogen production by 350 million m3 a year.
Finally, MMK has inaugurated a new ladle furnace, the construction of which had begun in 2007 with the aim of satisfying the continuous delivery of steel to the billet concaster. The main equipment for the new furnace was supplied by Austrian Siemens VAI. The annual production capacity of the furnace is two million mt.
