Russian steel mill Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced the commissioning of its new slag processing equipment, supplied by US-based engineering enterprise Amcom LLC.

Accordingly, the new equipment, capable to extract up to 95 percent of metal from slags, will allow MMK to increase its self-sufficiency in raw materials by 150,000 mt per year, which in the current situation of global crisis, is one of the company's most urgent tasks.

In addition, the new slag processing equipment will enable MMK to raise in the next year the total volume of metal fractions of all facilities by 58 percent to 477,000 mt. As a result, MMK will considerably increase the quality of its steel products.

As a regard to the future, MMK plans to replace its old processing equipments, in order to increase its slag processing capacity to one million mt per year.
