Mittal Steel USA has announced the sale of steel for export beginning in the current second quarter.

The company says that it will start exporting in order to take advantage of the robust global market as well as the resources of Arcelor Mittal International, the company's global trading division.

Mittal's initial export sales target is 200,000 net tons during the second quarter from several of the company's Eastern and Midwestern US plants.

"Traditionally, Mittal Steel USA and its predecessor companies have not been active exporters," said president and CEO of Mittal Steel USA in a press release Friday. "However, with the continuing strength in the global market, we plan to aggressively seek new opportunities that fit our capabilities."

"As the global leader in high-quality steels, Arcelor Mittal is well positioned to serve the needs of the world's most demanding steel customers by capitalizing on the unique capabilities of our global network," he continued.

Mittal USA is the largest steel producer in North America and the largest integrated steelmaker in the US, with locations in 12 states.
