Mittal Steel Poland to build continuous caster

Mittal Steel Company NV announced yesterday that its Polish subsidiary, Mittal Steel Poland, signed a letter of intent with Germany's SMS Demag to build a continuous caster at Dabrowa Gornicza. The investment is a part of a PLN 2.4 billion ($785 million) capital expenditure program agreed with the Polish Ministry of State Treasury under the terms of the Polskie Huti Stali privatization. The caster, which will allow Mittal Steel Poland to produce high quality slabs, should be operational by the end of 2006.
