Mittal Steel excluded from Vitkovice tender

Czech sources report that Mittal Steel has been excluded from the Vitkovice Steel (VS) tender due to a dispute between Mittal and Vitkovice majority owner Osinek over pig iron supply prices. The Czech government announced that Mittal Steel will not be allowed to participate in the Vitkovice Steel tender since the company is not in compliance with the terms laid out for the VS tender. The particular term that Mittal runs afoul of is that a bidding company cannot be in a dispute with the Czech government, Vitkovice Steel or its parent company Osinek. Mittal Steel reportedly plans to file a complaint to the European Commission to stop the privatization. Mittal Steel was among the nineteen companies that expressed their interest in VS privatization.
