Speaking in New Delhi recently, Indian Ministry of Steel Secretary Binoy Kumar noted that domestic production of value-added steel in India is rising. As a result, he recommended a forum comprised of representatives from producing and consuming entities to help define future requirements and address existing challenges.

The Ministry of Steel encouraged industry bodies such as Steel Research and Technology Mission of India (SRTMI) to formulate policies and forward suggestions to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) which may influence Quality Control Orders (QCO) which will govern both imported and domestic steel qualities.
