Vice minister of ministry of Environmental Protection, Zhang Lijun stated recently that China is planning to impose environmental tax, and that to set ecological compensation units is one of the important tasks regarding energy saving and emission reduction in 2009.

Mr. Zhang emphasized that next year is a decisive year for China to realize the compulsive goal set for the 11th "five-year" plan with regard to energy saving and emission reduction. Since it is necessary to conduct strong measures for the purpose of accomplishing the scheduled target, environmental tax will be the right one. Undoubtedly, the issue of such a tax measure will increase the costs of those high pollution industries such as steel sectors.
