The domestic coking industry in China has recorded good development since the beginning of this year, with the deepening of supply-side reform, as stated by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on November 29.
In the January-October period of the current year, metallurgical coke output in China amounted to 359.53 million mt, down 1.0 percent year on year. It is expected that China’s coke output will total 430 million mt in the full year of 2018.
Meanwhile, in the January-October period, the average price of second-grade coke in China was recorded at RMB 2,047/mt ($295.0/mt), up 13.2 percent year on year, indicating that supply-side reform in the coking industry has exerted a positive impact on coke prices.
Moreover, in the January-October period this year, Chinese coke exports totaled 7.76 million mt, up 27.6 percent year on year, with an export value of RMB 15.25 billion ($2.2 billion), rising by 41.8 percent year on year. It is expected that China’s coke exports will reach 9.0 million mt for the full year of 2018.
