Mexico’s economy secretariat, SE, said on Monday a new norm for aluminum-clad steel core wire will be effective in 30 days, according to a noticed published on October 23, 2017, at the country’s official gazette, Diario Oficial Federal (DOF).

The NMX-J-646-ANCE-2017 norm will replace the existing NMX-J-646-ANCE-2012 regulation, the Mexican government said. The NMX-J-646-ANCE-2017 sets the specifications and probe methods for aluminum-clad steel core wire as well as for certain cables used by electricity utility companies.

SE said the NMX-J-646-ANCE-2017 is not equivalent to the IEC 61232 aluminum-clad steel wire for electrical purposes for several reasons, including the fact the Mexican norm covers several cables that are not included in the international IEC 61232 norm.
