Mexican lawmakers demand continuation of duties
Mexican sources report that a group of lawmakers in Mexico's lower house demanded that the government maintain antidumping duties on certain steel products. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, in September 2005, Mexico's Economy Ministry imposed antidumping duties ranging from 36.8 percent to 67.6 percent on imports of all types of carbon steel plates from Russia, Romania and Ukraine. While Russian imports were subject to a duty of 36.8 percent, imports from Ukraine and Romania were subject to a duty of 60.1 percent and 67.6 percent, respectively. Moreover, Economy Ministry imposed the tariffs of 6.8-25.4 percent on certain varieties of carbon steel tubing from the US, effective as of May 28, 2005, as a result of an antidumping investigation. Sources report that lawmakers demanded that the government not to lift import tariffs until international markets adjust.Mexican lawmakers demand continuation of duties
