Mexican automotive dealer association AMDA has confirmed it has contacted the local government for help.

According to the trade group, they have asked Mexican government for stable prices, so domestic car sales can improve.

The association’s president, Guillermo Rosales Zárate, said the government needs to keep a “stable, responsible” fiscal policy to stimulate auto financing and stable car prices.

Mexican domestic auto sales have declined in the past few months.

According to data from the local automotive industry association, AMIA, domestic auto sales in April dropped 4.6 percent, year-on-year, to 109,265 units.

A similar trend was also seen in March, February and January this year, on a year-on-year basis, SteelOrbis has learned.

Zárate also urged the government for an improved car monitoring system, since the existing National Vehicle Control System has become “obsolete.”
