Mexican auto production, domestic sales decline in December and 2019

Mexico’s automotive industry association, AMIA, said the local automotive sector posted weaker December and full-year results, both on a year-on-year basis.

AMIA said local production of vehicles in December was 208,073 units, 12.6 percent down, year-on-year. As for the full year of 2019, Mexican auto production reached 3.7 million units, 4.1 percent down, year-on-year.

AMIA said domestic sales of cars in December fell 8.3 percent, year-on-year, to 130,448 units. In 2019, Mexican domestic sales of vehicles totaled 1.31 million units, 7.6 percent down, year-on-year.

The trade group said Mexican exports of autos in December was 229,227 units, 16.6 percent down, year-on-year.

As for 2019, Mexican exports of vehicles decreased 3.3 percent, year-on-year, to 3.3 million units.
