Mexican auto production and domestic sales drop in September

Mexican auto production in September dropped 1.1 percent, year-on-year, to 320,071 units, the nation’s automotive industry association (AMIA) said on Tuesday.

According to AMIA, Mexican domestic sales in September totaled 114,653 units, 1.5 percent down, year-on-year. Mexican exports of vehicles in September increased 6.8 percent, year-on-year, to 306,003 units.

As for the accumulated period of January to September, Mexican auto production grew 0.5 percent, year-on-year, to 2.9 million units. Likewise, Mexican exports of autos in the same nine-month period was 2.5 million units, 7.5 percent up, year-on-year. On the other hand, Mexican domestic sales of autos in the January-September period was 1.02 million units, 7.1 percent down, year-on-year.
