Mexican auto production and domestic sales decline in August

Mexican auto production in August declined 9.6 percent, year-on-year, to 337,462 units, local automotive industry association (AMIA) said this week.

According to the trade group, Mexican domestic sales of vehicles in August totaled 107,651 units, 9.7 percent down, year-on-year.

Following the same downtrend, Mexican exports of autos in August totaled 281,811 units, 12.7 percent down, year-on-year.

As for the accumulated period from January to August this year, Mexican auto production fell 0.9 percent, year-on-year, to 2.60 million units. Domestic sales of cars in the eight-month period reached 851,947 units, 7 percent down, year-on-year.

On the other hand, Mexican exports of vehicles in the January-August period reached 2.29 million units, 1.5 percent up, year-on-year.
