Ukrainian mining and steel producing group Metinvest has announced that its subsidiary Ilyich Iron & Steel Works of Mariupol will overhaul its converter No.2 in September this year, including the improvement of the gas cleaning system. The maintenance works will cost more than UAH 230 million ($9.26 million). The project is included in the Program of Protection and Improvement of the Environment in Mariupol, which was presented in April this year. The project will reduce dust emissions into the environment 2.5 times, ensuring the implementation of European environmental standards.

In 2014, Ilyich completed the first stage of reconstruction of the shop filters of the converter No.1. In addition, the company abandoned the outdated open-hearth production in 2015. Also at the plant continues the reconstruction of its sinter plant worth $220 million, which is the largest conservation project in Ukraine.
