Ukrainian mining and steel producing group Metinvest has announced that in January this year, as a first in Ukraine, its subsidiaries Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol and Azovstal Iron and Steel Works started production of structural steel plates with improved atmospheric corrosion resistance according to European norm EN 10025-5.

According to Metinvest, rolled products made from this kind of steel do not require any painting, thereby saving costs for surface treatment and operation of structures. The products are widely used in construction of bridges, manufacture of reservoirs and tanks, and in design of facades for buildings.

Metinvest stated that the first 190 mt of the new steel products have been shipped to Poland. An order portfolio for the near future includes more than 4,000 mt of rolled steel destined for western and eastern Europe in the segment of bridge construction. The company also plans to supply products to the domestic market.
