After its July 2017 acquisition of M&K Metal Processors in Ohio, MetalX is investing $35 million to build a greenfield scrap processing plant on a 60-acre site also in Delta, Ohio. The state-of-the-art processing plant is strategically located across from the North Star BlueScope’s flat-rolled steel mill. Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2017 and become fully operational within 12 months.
According to the company’s press release, the facility is expected to handle more than 500,000 tons of scrap annually with 80 people employed. The site may grow to 700,000 tons annually and 100 employees depending on market opportunities.
Key ferrous scrap processing operations will include a heavy-duty shredder and recovery system, a production baler, mobile shears and a high-capacity staging and distribution yard for prepared grades. The company will also operate a full-service fleet transportation hub to support industrial and wholesale scrap suppliers in the region.
The 10-acre M&K facility will remain open after the new yard is operational and will focus on community recycling and commercial customers, according to the company.
MetalX is an Indiana-based, privately held, independent scrap metal recycling business founded in 2012. The company currently employs more than 200 people throughout six facilities concentrated in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio.
