Russia-based leading global iron ore and hot briquetted iron (HBI) producer Metalloinvest has announced that it is proceeding with the modernization of its pellet plant No. 3 (PP-3) at Mikhailovsky GOK.

A roller press, which the company has been recently equipped with within the scope of its modernization project, will enable it to grind concentrates and thus will contribute to the improvement of concentrates’ pelletizing and roasting properties. The company expects to see a five percent increase in productivity, from 630 mt to 664 mt per hour. In 2018, the capacity had already been increased by five percent in the first stage of the modernization.
Moreover, the company is planning to expand the working area of the pellet plant by the extension of its drying and cooling zones, to install additional aspiration facilities, and to replace the extraction system with a more efficient one.

According to the company’s statement, most of the modernization works will be carried out during the planned shutdown of the pellet plant in the August-September period this year. The pilot operation phase of the upgraded facility is planned for the fourth quarter of this year.
