Meishan Steel to expand HR productivity by 2008

Baosteel Group’s Meishan Steel plans to expand its HR productivity to five million tons by 2008. Officials from Meishan confirm that the company submitted a productivity expansion application at the end of 2004. Now the company awaits approval from the State Development & Reform Commission (SDRC). The HR productivity expansion, which calls for a new 2500 cubic meter smelter, is part of Baosteel Group's overall business strategy for the "11th five-year plan". Meishan currently owns three sets of blast furnaces with total annual crude steel productivity of three million tons.
