Mechel’s Southern Kuzbass ups coal output by 45 percent in 2010

Southern Kuzbass Coal Company, a subsidiary of the Russian mining and steel producing group Mechel, has announced that in 2010 it increased its coal output by 4.4 million mt or by 45 percent year on year to 14 million mt, including 7.1 million mt of coking coal - up 42 percent year on year.

In December 2010, Southern Kuzbass' coal output amounted to 1.362 million mt, including 676,600 mt of coking coal.

According to Southern Kuzbass' release, 2010 was for Southern Kuzbass "a time of intense labor, of implementation of important industrial and social programs, and of formation of development outlooks. The growth in coal output was possible due to increased demand, significant investments in new equipment acquisitions, and well-coordinated work of the company's collective. 

"In 2011 we allot the task of further increase of production volumes, of the continuation of the investment program, and of the implementation of all social obligations," read Southern Kuzbass' statement.
