Mechel's Q3 crude steel output down four percent from Q2 level

Mechel, one of the leading Russian mining and steel groups, has announced that in the third quarter this year its crude steel output decreased by four percent to 1.055 million mt, while its pig iron output increased by five percent to 1.010 million mt, both quarter on quarter. Mechel's run-of-mine coal production in the third quarter rose by three percent compared to the second quarter to 5.810 million mt.

In the third quarter this year, the company's steam coal sales saw a 40 percent increase quarter on quarter to 1.639 million mt. Coking coal concentrate sales in the third quarter this year decreased by 12 percent to 2.427 million mt, while iron ore concentrate sales declined by 32 percent to 618,000 mt, both on quarter-on-quarter basis.
