Mechel Steel to wind up its Croatian pipe business

Russian steel producer Mechel Steel Group is reportedly planning to dispose of its pipe enterprise Mechel Zeljezara in Croatia. Russian steel producer is in negotiations with the Croatian government regarding the subject. It is stated that Mechel's withdrawal from the project is due to the poor opportunities in the Croatian market. Moroever, pipe business is not the core business of Mechel. Mechel acquired Mechel Zeljezara, formerly Zeljeara Sisak in February 2003.
