Mechel sees decline in revenues in January-September

Russian mining and steel group Mechel has announced its consolidated financial results for the first nine months of the current year. In the January-September period, Mechel saw an operating loss of $393 million compared to an operating income of $258 million in the same period of 2012. In the first nine months this year, Mechel's revenue from external customers decreased by 19 percent year on year to $6.692 billion. The company's adjusted EBITDA decreased by 55 percent year on year to $608 million.

The revenue of Mechel's mining segment from external customers in the January-September period of the current year totaled $2.158 billion, down 20 percent, while its steel segment's revenue from external customers in the same period amounted to $3.927 billion, down 20 percent, both compared to the corresponding period of 2012.
