Mechel commissions new sinter plant

Russian steel producer Mechel announced yesterday that it commissioned a new sinter plant at its subsidiary Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant. The sinter plant is part of Mechel's strategic investment program to reduce production costs, improve quality and modernize. The plant, which has an annual sinter production capacity of 4.5 million tons, will fully be operational by the end of this year. The total cost of the project is expected to amount to $150 million.
